Shepherd and Crofty
CC4 have recently produced a couple of "tribute" films to two of Glamorgan's greatest servants. "Don Shepherd recently celebrated his 80th Birthday, whilst Robert Croft took his 1000th first class wicket...." Dr Andrew Hignell, Hon Statistician and Historian to Glamorgan CCC, writes this of "Shep" on the Cricket Archive website. http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/ Articles/0/786.html

"Don Shepherd took a club record of 2, 174 wickets for Glamorgan between 1950 and 1972. In all first-class cricket, he claimed 2,218 victims, yet remarkably, Shepherd never played in Test cricket. Indeed, the off-cutters tally of over two thousand wickets is the highest by any bowler never to have played for England. His remarkable record also spoke volumes both for his ability and perseverance , and highlights the way English cricket in the 1950`s and 1960`s was so well blessed with fine spinners for the Welshman to be constantly overlooked at the highest level. "

This is what Dr Hignell wrote at the time of "Crofty's" feat;

12th September 2007 "A piece of Glamorgan cricket history was made today at Northampton at 4.25pm as Robert Croft became the first Welshman to achieve the 'double' of 1,000 first-class wickets and 10,000 first-class runs. The veteran off-spinner reached this personal landmark as he dismissed Niall O’Brien leg before – his third wicket of the innings and like the other two, both adjudged lbw by Jeff Evans. In so doing, he became the ninth player to have represented Glamorgan to have taken 1,000 first-class wickets in all games."

CC4 are delighted to have been able to play a small part in celebrating the milestones achieved by both of these greats - Don Shepherd's video was presented to him by a dinner held in his honour by the St Helen's Balconiers in August, whilst Robert Croft's video was given to him as part of the celebration of his announcement as "Player of the Year" at the end of season dinner.
