Celtic
Film Festival
The Singing Lions’ DVD set, produced by Cardiff based CC4 in
association with Komarisce Entertainment in Cornwall have
received nominations in the Best Interactive and Sports
Profile categories for this year’s prestigious Celtic Film
and TV Festival, to be held in Falmouth in March.
This unique 80 minute story is told by the players and is a
thorough account of the successful British Lions tour to
Australia and New Zealand in 1950. Using a mixture of rare
archive footage, match coverage, recent interviews, this
story is not only about rugby but also takes the viewer back
to life as it was in the 50’s, full of camaraderie,
sportsmanship and generosity. We hear personal stories from
such greats as Karl Mullen, Bleddyn Williams, Jack Mathews,
Peter Kininmonth, Jon Robins and many more of the stars of
the Four Tests in New Zealand, and two in Australia – plus
the “unofficial” Test versus Ceylon/ Sri Lanka on the way
home ! As a bonus there is a CDR crammed with match
statistics, player’s profiles, memorabilia and of course 18
rugby songs beautifully sung by the Lions, which is how the
original idea for the project came about.
Held in Cardiff in 2005, this will be the 27th Celtic Film
and TV Festival. A panel of judges from the competing
countries award excellence in Filmmaking, TV, Radio and
Interactive Media from Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall
and Brittany.
CC4 Company Director Huw Owen said ‘ We are absolutely
delighted to have received these two nominations for ‘The
Singing Lions’ and look forward to competing against our
Celtic neighbours for the Awards.’
‘It is also great to be acknowledged and fantastic for the
small team at CC4 responsible for producing the DVD package.
It would be fabulous for Wales should we be victorious and
we hope to return home with a Torc or two.’
