Second Life on Wedi 7

Phil Stead of CC4 appeared on the Welsh Language magazine programmer, Wedi 7, which is broadcast live to 80,000 viewers on S4C across the UK.

Phil discussed CC4's work on Second Life, the 3D online metaverse that has taken the Internet by storm over the last year.

Second Life is a virtual environment which allows users to buy and create their own content, using a real life currency system, and in house 3D design tools.

CC4 have been working in this field since October 2006, and have recently purchased an island which Phil has been developing for the company.

The island, Cymru, offers the only Welsh presence in Second Life and includes a mountain railway, a housing estate, shopping centre, a nightclub, and a bar which hosts live music, streamed into the users PC from live musicians playing anywhere in the World.

Perhaps most interesting is the project being run in conjunction with Snowdonia National Park Authority. CC4 has been running a pilot with SNPA, investigating the use of the 3D metaverse as a learning and information tool.

Phil Stead visited the Snowdonia Tourist Information Centre in Betws-y-Coed, and has rebuilt it in Second Life using actual textures from the building. It contains a variety of information about Snowdonia, using text, graphics, audio and video in a groundbreaking experiment. The Centre has proved very popular and is receiving approximately 60 visitors a day from all over the World.

Second Life now has 10 million worldwide members and CC4 are recognised as leaders in building, developing and creating content for all its users.

As a result of the television appearance, Welsh band Genod Drwg are hoping to launch their brand new CD with a live performance at Taff’s Bar on Cymru.
